The follow-up emails that got replies

Silence is rarely a hard no. Usually it is just an overloaded inbox. These are the exact templates I used to climb back to the top of it.

The day-7 follow-up

When to use it: Seven days after you apply, when you have heard nothing.

Subject: Following up on my [Role] application

Hi [Name],

I applied for [Role] on [date]. Since then I [relevant recent thing, or the one reason I am a strong match]. I would welcome the chance to discuss how I could help with [specific challenge from the posting].

Best,

[Your name]

After a screening call

When to use it: Five to seven days after a call, with no response.

Subject: Thanks for the conversation about [Role]

Hi [Name],

Thanks again for the chat on [day] about [Role]. The point about [specific thing they mentioned] stuck with me. It is exactly the kind of problem I [relevant experience]. Happy to go deeper on [topic] whenever it is useful.

The second touch

When to use it: Around day 14, after total silence.

Subject: Checking in on [Role]

Hi [Name],

Circling back on my [Role] application from [date]. I know inboxes get buried. If the timing is not right, no problem at all. I would just appreciate knowing where things stand so I can plan accordingly.

[Your name]

Three sentences. Sent on a schedule, not from anxiety. That is the whole move.
